Blackberry Playbook Upgrade

By Craig B. in Support | 27/02/2012

You may remember some time ago we published an article surrounding the use of tablet computers.  Since that time, we have been witness to the rise and fall of the Blackberry PlayBook.  It had been hailed as a serious contender to the dominance of Apple's iPad, but the device sadly did not live up to expectations.

On release it became clear that Research in Motion had made some glaring omissions from functionality, notably the lack of a built in email client.  The makers of the tablet had initially promised to release an upgrade within 60 days.  Almost a year late it has finally arrived.

The new version of the operating system (PlayBook 2.0) is a free upgrade and promises to bring with it the all important email client, which should relieve the need to pair with a Blackberry smartphone for any sort of communication.

There is one feature which we at Waite IT would like to have seen on the device which is still not present - Blackberry Messenger (BBM).  BBM has proved a huge factor in the early success of Blackberry smartphones and we feel that its addition to the PlayBook could prove a promising step in a time in which Research in Motion is not coping very well in the marketplace.

We will be getting our hands on this upgrade soon and will give you a full review as soon as we can. Stay Tuned!
